Conference being held in Lafayette to discuss changes in Cuba regulations

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)— As Federal Government announces new amendments to
the Cuba regulations, Lafayette International Center is inviting
Lafayette residents to a conference.

Cuba and Louisiana have been strong trading partners since before Cuba
was a country and Louisiana was a state, according to a spokesperson
with the LIC.

A news release stated that Cuba was once the number one buyer of rice
from Louisiana.

The conference will be held at the Petroleum Club of Lafayette on Oct.
19, with participating experts from Cuba, Mexico and the United States.
Doors Open at 9 a.m. and the conference will end at 2 p.m.

Philippe Gustin, International Trade Manager said the conference will
deliver critical information on business opportunities for Cuban
activity sectors of agriculture, mining, energy, construction,
telecommunications, transportation logistics, and port operation. He
added it will also outline opportunities in cultural exchanges and
higher education, as well as current travel and business restrictions.

Seating is limited and pre-registration is required.

According to a news release, attendees to this conference will be given
priority for a 2017 Acadiana mission to Cuba, and will be invited to
take part in a Cuba-Louisiana cross-cultural training later this year.
